Alexander Howard White

Alexander Howard White, was a blessing from the very beginning of life. His dear mother, Edith French-White, was told she could never bare children. God is such a good God, that at the age of 42, on October 13, 1955, in Manhat- tan, New York, she gave birth to this wonderful human being. October 14, 1956, Alex was christened at Saint Philip’s Church, Manhattan. On May 28, 1961, Alex was baptized at St. John’s Catholic Church, whereby he also received his first communion, and served as an Alter Boy. There were lots of stories about taking extra grape juice when no one was looking...kids. Alex was raised mainly in Brooklyn, New York. He attended school 156, Arthur S. Somers Junior High, and Harlem Preparatory School, then on to Knoxville College, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Alex, being a lifelong sports fan played softball, basketball, and football. Football was definitely his favorite sport. If you didn’t jive with him loving the Yankees, Knicks, or Steelers, you just weren’t right! But, he loved you anyway! In 1973, Alex attended Knoxville College (KC). By 1974 Alex became a proud member of the Beta Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. His line was called The Murphy Gang. His line number was #7, and his line name was “The Butler.” It was also at KC Alex met Wanda. Where ever you saw one, the other was not too away. They were married for 46 years, 48 if you add those dating years, but who’s count- ing? That’s a lot of years folks J Throughout those years, they grew together, weathered the ups and downs of married life, all the while continu- ing to love, respect, and support each other in every way possible. Their song was called, “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” by the Stylistics. When one of the two heard it, no matter wherever they were, that person would send the other a message saying, “they’re playing our song.” The other would respond with an endearing response, a smile, heart, blow a kiss, etc. It always made the other feel special. It’s the little things, right?! Through their union, a son was born, Alexander II. Let’s not forget Zeus, the beloved boxer and legged child! Alex worked for Eckrich Foods in research and development/warehouse management, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Followed by Hebrew National, as a product testing/machine sanitation supervisor. CWC, as a floor manager/shipping & receiving. Finally slowing down to Blue Green Senior Vacation Specialist, from which he retired from. All here in Indianapolis. Preceded in life by his mother, Edith French White Jones, Stepfather John M. Jones, and loving cousin, Valencia Martin-Lismon. Also Alex leaves to cherish his lov- ing memories are his wife, Wanda, two sons, Alexander H. White II, Saudi Arabia. Christopher Gardner (Caitlyn) and two adorable and loving grandchildren, Zoey and Kai, Chalmette, LA. Sister-in-laws Sylvia Bendolph (Jerome) Montgomery, Al, Debra Henry Montgomery Al, Andrea Thomas Montgomery, Al, Crystal Haynes Tampa, FL, Brother-law Edward Walker, Jr. Tampa, FL. And a host of nieces and nephews. The remaining member of “The Federa- tion” Brett Lewis. The Briggs family, Blanche, Craig, God-Daughter Christina, and Craig Robert. Lastly, the beloved “Little Friends,” who are too many to list, but you know who you are. You made his last remaining years, awe- some, Thank you all so much. All the many other friends through- out the years that have made a wonderful man, the luckiest man in the world during his brief stay here. Alexander Howard White departed his life from here to be with our Heavenly Father, and join his loved ones who journeyed before him on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 6:05 am.
