Carla R Shotwell

Carla Ren’e Shotwell was born on November 29, 1967, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Joann D. Cox Shotwell and the late Carl O. Shotwell. She was the beloved only daughter among three children. Carla attended Indianapolis Public School #73, Forest Manor Middle School, and graduated from Arlington High School in 1986. After high school, she earned a certificate from ITT Technical Institute. Carla was employed at Van Westrum Corporation before working at Sheppard’s Little Lamb Childcare. She later became the Director of the Daycare at Greater Harvest COGIC. At an early age, Carla accepted the Lord as her Savior at First Free Will Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Earl C. Nowlen Sr. Her deep love for God was evident in her dedication to church service. Carla was a church bus driver at New Zion Tabernacle and sang in the choir, where she was known for her rich tenor voice. At True Vine MBC, she worked with the youth department, assisting with the Drill Team and Praise Dancers. After COVID she decided to take a step out on faith and became a member of Eden Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Pastor Adrienne Overton, where she sung in the Mass Choir and was one of the Loudest Cheerleaders anytime Pastor Preached. Carla was a proud mother of two wonderful daughters, Tori and Alicia, known affectionately as "Carla and the Girls." She was also known as a DIVA who loved to dress up herself and her daughters. Carla was the go-to “kitchen beautician” for many, especially for the girls and other young ladies, and was known for having “growing hands.” Carla departed from her earthly home on August 17, 2024, at the age of 56 years and 9 months. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl O. Shotwell, and her god-sister, Cathy Cushenberry. Carla leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Tori Robinson (Kamarre) and Alicia Hall; her brothers, Gary W. and Corey Shotwell; her grandchildren, Alayah and Aubree Hall, Tyler Marbury-Robinson, Ethan Bryant, Taylor Robinson, and Mylie Taylor; her nieces, Erica Autmon, Laila, and Simone Shotwell; and her nephew, Corey Shotwell Jr. She is also survived by her special "Sister"-Cousin Cicely Fuller (Monty), "Son"-Cousin Christopher Ford (Adam), and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends.
