Dennis Gregory Patterson

Dennis Gregory Patterson Sr. was born December 1 st , 1951, in Philadelphia, PA. Dennis is the Middle child born to Louise Sims and the late Rev. James Ellis Patterson Sr. Dennis who also was affectionately known as “Philly” was educated in Philadelphia Public School graduating from Germantown High School in 1970. After graduation Dennis decided to attend Miles College in Fairfield, AL. Dennis was a dedicated student and had aspirations on becoming an Aircraft Mechanic. While at Miles the opportunity to join the Airforce presented and Dennis left college in the middle of his freshman year to join the United States Airforce remaining in Fairfield, AL. while in the service he became a certified hydraulic mechanic a craft that took him across the world. Dennis was stationed in London, Thailand, Korea, China, and Japan to name a few. After serving 6 years in the Airforce, he returned to the states and was stationed at Grissom Airforce Base in Kokomo Indiana. Dennis would frequently visit Indianapolis to visit friends who were in the service with him. It was at this time that he laid eyes on Gwenevera Arnold. After several attempts he won her heart a few years later they married and moved to Philadelphia, PA to start their life together. To their union were born 3 children Dennis G. Patterson Jr., Tolvi R. Patterson, and Lateefah T. Patterson. Working to take care of his family he worked for several companies and garnered various skills. As goes life Dennis and Gwen decided to separate and Gwen and the children moved to her home city of Indianapolis, IN. Later Dennis followed to be with his family. Dennis enrolled in Vincennes University and completed his degree in Physics. Later they would officially separate but still worked to co-parent their children. Dennis was a man that loved his family and his children. No matter where he was or what curveballs life threw, he was always going to be the life of the party. You could find him playing chess, or cards with his friends as he was very competitive. His greatest joy was his children in particular his youngest daughter his very shadow. He found great joy in her success, and her growth, spending time with her making sure that she knew his love. He valued family and loved his children in no way was he perfect but he loved in his words “MY BABIES.” Dennis was a proud parent and often times you could hear him celebrating the success and joys of his babies. He valued education and wanted what was best for his children often sharing with them his life and experiences in an effort to encourage them to keep moving forwards. Dennis G. Patterson Sr departed this life Sunday January 15 th , 2023, at the age of Seventy-Two. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons Dennis (Karen) Patterson Jr., Tolvi R. Patterson, Daughter Lateefah T. Patterson, two granddaughters Kirstin D. Patterson and Kyra E. Patterson, Sister Deidre Hughes, Sister-in-Love Tawana M. Arnold Nieces Charmaine (Nafis) Washington, great nieces Mikayla Washington, Nazhae’ Washington. Nephew Jeffrey (Kelli) Morris Jr. great nephew Ayden S. Morris, God Family Raenel, Sean and Grant Rivers and a host of friends, relatives, and community family.
