Doris Jean Smith

Our beloved beautiful, gorgeous Momma, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt & Sister, Doris Jean Moore was the heart of our family. Doris was affectionately known as “Tiddy”, “Doe” & “Baby” Doris Smith “Moore” departed this earth on April 18, 2024, in her home surround by her family. Doris was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 3, 1956, to Ruth Marie Moore and Williard A. Moore. Doris attended and graduated from Short Ridge High School and earned her Associate Degree in Business Administration from DeVry University. Sis. Doris was a beacon of light and loved to take care of her family. Sis. Doris had a sense of humor, always cracking a joke, she was an amazing cook, her family would travel in the city and out of town just to get some of her holiday meals, homemade rolls & homemade cakes & pies, etc. Sis. Doris could cook! Sis. Doris loved getting to know her family and was always researching her ancestry history and loved attending her father’s side of the family reunion. Sis. Doris never met a stranger, she could be in the grocery store and just start talking to anyone and people just loved her and welcome conversation that would almost turn into an hour with someone who she just met, she was a friend to all. Sis. Doris’s heart was so huge and loving that her door was always open to her family who would be in need of shelter or food she was always helping and taking care of others even when she could not take care of herself. Doris believed in using her gift & talents that God blessed her with and she lived her life for others and loved unconditionally. Doris’s legacy in the faith is as enduring as the knowledge she imparted. Doris loved to volunteer at the local food pantry when she was able to and she had such a beautiful and amazing smile that was contagious. Sis. Doris dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized in the name of Jesus. She was a faithful member of Bethany Temple Apostolic Church; she was an anointed Evangelist, The Children’s Youth Choir Director, and an anointed Singer whose voice was like an “Angel”. Sis. Doris was a loving and devoted mother to her four beautiful children, three girls and one son. Doris married Gladden Williams and their love extended to two of her children, Inga Williams and Marketa Williams. Doris later re-married Robert Smith and their love extended to one child Shantell Ruth Smith. All of her children remember her as a nurturing soul, always ready with a comforting word, a woman of strong faith, encouraging or captivating you in an engaging story. Sis. Doris’s faith was so strong in Christ, and she made sure that all of her children was raised in Christ. Her favorite words to her children after an end of a conversation was “I love you more” and she loved her children more than anything. Sis. Doris was not only a mother to her children, but she also was a mother & grandmother figure to her children’s additional siblings, she treated everyone as family and loved everyone. Doris was a talented singer and musician, she graced and blessed many with her talent as a pianist and singer. She was also a dreamer who always had an idea that she just had to share and invent. She had several designs ready for production. Her vision and dream were to become an inventor and get her homemade food on the market. She also loved to design clothes and was known as a “Kitchen Beautician” she would lay a curl out back in the day. In her quite time she loved to read and watch her favorite cooking shows, The Word Christian Network, HGTV, game shows, soap operas and Reality TV. Sis. Doris was predeceased by her loving parents, her eldest brother Melvin Coleman, and only son Samuel Lee Miles. Doris’s memory will forever be cherished and kept alive by her 3 daughters (Inga Harrington, Marketa (Darius) Otis & Shantell Smith), grandchildren Randy Morton, Kyra Doss, Eddie Doss, Deshawn Doss, Faith Harrington, Laylia Smith and Aaliyah Williams, great grandchildren Ka’miylah Doss, Kaliyah Dabney, Kal’Zaye Doss, and her baby brother Anthony W. Moore Sr., along with her one nephew (Anthony Moore) two nieces (Crystal & Alisha Moore), great nieces, great nephews, many beloved cousins, a host of family and a community that benefited from knowing her and was blessed to be in her presence.
