Eric T Smith

Eric Tyrone Smith was born on April 26, 1962, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Robert W. “Bobby” Smith Sr. and Marie Knox Smith-Sanders. He attended Otis E. Brown School #20 and graduated from Emmerich Manual High School. He later received his Associates from ITT Tech. After completing his education, he served 4 years in the US Army and received Honorable Discharge. Eric married his high school sweetheart, Cherlynn, and from this union, two children, Tariah and Erica were born. Becoming a husband, father, and grandfather were among Eric’s most cherished accomplishments. Being married for 42 years was proof of true love, loyalty and a good sense of humor that withstood the test of time. Eric professed his faith in Christ at an early age at Mount Pilgram Baptist Church. He recommitted his life at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church in 1997. Eric was employed at Chrystler before joining the family businesses, Robger Inc. and Furniture Plus, that specialized in custom commercial cabinetry and custom furniture for private homes and businesses. He along with his father and brothers had very unique talents and their custom handmade work was always in demand. Eric transitioned to Beaty Construction, where he spent 18 years honing his skills and becoming Superintendent of Heavy Highway Construction. That job shaped him to the man he was, someone who took pride in quality craftsmanship, teamwork, and seeing a project from blueprint to finish. Eric was an exceptional cook who was comfortable crafting 3 course meals. While Eric thrived in the kitchen, he also built the kitchen. With a real knack for custom cabinetry and woodworking, he took pride in crafting beautiful, functional spaces by hand. When he was not in the kitchen, you could find him watching or talking sports, he was a die-hard fan who loved the energy of live games, whether courtside or a stadium. Eric departed this life peacefully in his home on April 16, 2025 at the age of 62. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. “Bobby” Smith Sr., Marie Knox Smith-Sanders, and Carl Sanders Jr. (step-father); his brother, Robert W. “Junie” Smith Jr., and his sister, Katrina Shute. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Cherlynn Lange Smith; his daughters, Tariah Smith (Christopher), Erica Prieto (Alan); his grand-daughters, Alina and Callie; future grandson, Maxwell Tyrone; his sisters, Wonda Smith, Chyerle Leach of Stockton, CA; his brothers, Rommel Smith (Dyanne) of Columbus, OH, Dean Smith (Jody); his half-sister, Kathy Newell; his half-brother, Kevin Smith; his step- brothers, Patrick Bundles, and Sean Bundles (Sherice), Gary Sanders; his step-sisters Phyillies Burks- Beatty, Beverly Bobbit, Kimberly Bundles, and Jamia Bundles Sargent (Randy); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many close friends.
