Erma Santiago

Erma was born on May 25, 1955, in Bronx, New York, to Carmen Judith Vega and Carlos Rivera. She graduated from high school and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing. During her nursing career, she worked as a geriatric nurse and MRI technician until 2009, when her declining kidney health forced her to step away from the profession she loved. After spending seven years on dialysis, she received the gift of a miracle kidney transplant in 2016. Erma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness and warmth touched everyone she met. She lived a life filled with love, faith, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with those she loved—sharing laughter, singing, dancing, telling stories, offering wisdom, and creating memories that will be cherished forever. Known for her caring spirit, generous heart, and steadfast support, Erma was the cornerstone of her family. She had a special way of making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her legacy of compassion, resilience, and grace will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the peaceful passing of Erma on June 2, surrounded by the love of her family. Erma is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Leonardo; her children, Naldito, Lurdez, Sandy (Jose), Mark, Angel (Kathy), Alex, and John (Christina); 20 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Diana and Evelyn; countless nieces and nephews; and many dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents and other loved ones who welcomed her into eternal rest. While our hearts mourn her absence, we find comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain and has found peace. We are grateful for the precious time we shared with her and for the countless lessons she taught us through her life. Her memory will remain forever in our hearts, and her love will continue to guide us each day. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the family she cherished and the lives she so beautifully touched.
