George Ralph Gorman

George Ralph Gorman "Governor," also known as "Paw Paw," was born on August 8, 1948, to his loving parents, Willie Ralph Gorman and Lena Elizabeth Gorman. He lived a life filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. George departed this life on July 26, 2026 at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished moments. He began his education at Indianapolis Public School #64 and later attended Harry E. Wood High School. He was a man with a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and never missed an opportunity to make others smile. On October 18, 2008, George was united in marriage to Doyce Echols-Gorman. Together they shared a loving marriage filled with companionship, laughter, and cherished memories until her passing. He enjoyed fishing, gambling, watching the news and Walker, Texas Ranger, and having his bag of Life Savers candy nearby. These simple pleasures were a part of the everyday moments that made him who he was and created memories that his family and friends will always treasure. George was self-employed as a handyman and was always willing to help when someone needed something fixed. He was someone people could depend on. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doyce Echols-Gorman; his parents, Willie Ralph and Lena Elizabeth Gorman; his brothers, Ralph, Robert, and Jerry Gorman; and his sisters, Carrie Clark, Mary Wilson, and Verdean Neville. George leaves to cherish his memory his stepson, Raymond Bannon (Sharron); his grandchildren, Raeonna, Raymond IV, and Raniyah Bannon; and his great-grandchildren, Juele-Vivian Thomas, Jah’lee-Hanan Bannon, Jaide and Jenesis Combs, and Raymond Bannon V. He is also survived by his siblings, Willie Mae Nation, Paul Gorman (Renee), MacArthur Gorman (Cherie), Lena Turner, and Mattie Gorman, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Although our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a man who brought laughter, joy, and his own special spirit into the lives of others. His memory will live on through the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he gave to his family and friends. George Ralph Gorman "Governor" will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Rest peacefully, Governor.
