James Anthony Ford

James Anthony Ford affectionally known as Jimmy as well as “Juice” was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 29, 1964, to the late Emma E. (Bacon) Gray and late James C. Ford. He was lov- ingly raised by his mother and her husband, the late Hubert T. Gray Jr. along with his younger sisters. From an early age, he showed dedication and commitment to his family by taking his big brother duties seriously. He was a loving and overprotective brother. When his sisters were younger, he spoiled them with shopping sprees and elaborate birthday gifts. He also cherished his relationship with his grandparents and had a special bond with his maternal grandfather. Many believe this is who Jimmy inherited his old soul from. He loved his extended family as well and had a close bond with his first cousins. As he got older, Jimmy often took on the responsibility of hosting family gatherings and was the family’s grill master. He also loved to bake desserts including his famous pecan pie and apple cobbler. Jimmy was also a leader on the Thomas family reunion committee and helped to organize family events and reunions in both Kentucky and Indiana. Kentucky held a special place in his heart, and he loved to travel there with his family reminiscing about the “good ole days” and creating new memories. At an early age, Jimmy professed Christ as his personal savior. He attended IPS #110 and later graduated from Emmerich Manual High School in 1982. His strong work ethic is undeniable. In every job, he showed up and gave 110%. While working for Hardees he worked his way up to a managerial position and was there for many years before transitioning to the plumbing industry. After receiving his certifica- tion from ITT Technical Institute, Jimmy secured employment with Mutual Pipe where he worked alongside his favorite Uncle Charles for many years. He later joined the Barry Company where he was employed until his passing. There he was a favorite with both his colleagues and customers. In addition to having extensive knowledge about the plumbing industry he was well versed in HVAC repairs and many other home improvement areas. In fact, he was a self-taught walking HGTV show. Over the years, he helped to repair and renovate numerous homes for family, friends, and customers. Jimmy loved cars as well. Each year he enjoyed attending the winter car show. He was an ex- pert car detailer and took great pride in main- taining his cars. When he was younger, he would often buy older cars and focus on restor- ing them especially the sound system. He also enjoyed driving. On any family road trip every- one could depend on him to be a road warrior. Sometimes his family had to beg him to stop that’s how much he loved driving but also, he loved to hear the banter of his passengers com- plaining about his refusal to make stops. Jimmy could be a jokester when he wanted to be not only with his immediate family but with every- one. The best part of his joking nature is that it would come out in unexpected moments and catch everyone off guard. He enjoyed watching Westerns, wrestling and comedy sitcoms. One of his favorites was Mr. Brown of the Tyler Perry’s series. Sometimes he would imitate Mr. Brown but only a select few witnessed these performances. The family will miss his infectious smile and laughter so much. Often the quiet one, he had a witty sense of humor that drew others to him. At times, he would show this side of himself but more often he was serious and reserved which is why when he spoke everyone would listen. His quiet leadership was one of his strongest attributes. He transitioned peacefully to eternal rest on Friday, December 2, 2002. James A. Ford (Jimmy) our brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, father, grandfather, and friend will be truly missed. He leaves to cherish his legacy and memory: sisters, Pamela Y. Ford, Lela Renee Bacon, Tiffany Gray-Williams (Maurice); nephew, Courtland Tunstill; niece, Tiffani Johnson; aunt, Annabelle Downing; lifelong friend, Andrea Johnson (Ford); daughter, Shannon Coe; son, Buford Johnson; granddaughters, Aryianna Carroll, and Amaya Sanford; great grandchildren: Harmony, Tytrail and Reign Carroll as well as a host of family and friends.
