Marvin Lawrence Douglas Sr.

Marvin Lawrence Douglas, Sr. the son of Betty Jean Scruggs and Dwayne Douglas (deceased), was born October 10, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Marvin was a faithful servant of God dedicating his life to God at an early age at First Samuel Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend William Smith. Later joined Eastside Baptist Church where he served as Trustee, Mighty Man of Valor, sung in the Eastside Baptist Male chorus and several others. Marvin was affectionally known as Brother Doug, Brother Douglas, “Tony.” Brother Douglas was the rock of Eastside, always doing things behind the scenes taking care of his beloved church. Marvin Lawrence attended Indianapolis Public School system. Marvin served his country as part of the United States Marine Corp. After serving his country, he returned home to Indianapolis. A year after returning home, he met his Black Rose in 1976. In 1977, they were united in holy matrimony and to that union they had (4) children. Marvin L. Douglas, Jr., Manetric L. Douglas, Michelle L. Douglas, and Mickael L. Douglas. Marvin was an entrepreneur, in 1992 he started Douglas Bros. Painting, Inc. He started his painting career learning from James Scruggs with J2 Productions. He apprenticed with Paul Estridge, Sr., Ike Coats & Charlie Garcia. He has painted the Walker Theatre, Health & Hospital Corporation, Charles Tindley Schools, Ace Preparatory and many more. Marvin Lawrence always carried himself as a God-fearing man and was Pastor Ray S. Ware’s right-hand man. Whatever Pastor needed him to do it was done in decent and in order. When a member of the congregation needed something, Marvin was the first one they called. Marvin Lawrence Douglas, Sr. departed this life, receiving his wings on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. God blessed the seasons of Marvin’s life to flourished as he touched and blessed many lives. We were blessed to share in his life that spanned for 66 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Dwayne Douglas, his twin son, Mickael L. Douglas, his brothers Leonard, Dwayne, Edward, Calvin, and Jerome. Marvin Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife of 45 years (October 8, 2023, they would’ve celebrated 46 years), Margaret L. Douglas; his son Marvin (Quierra); daughter’s Manetric (Benjamin), Michelle Douglas and his Godson, Brandon Hutchinson jr. His mother, Betty J. Scruggs; sisters Debra, Sharon & Kim; brothers MacArthur, Nathaniel & Kirk; (4) beautiful grandchildren that he adores Ma’kai, Mickaela, Marquis & Monte’vius. He cherished his in-laws Willie Mae, Woodrow, Marion, Cassandra (Derrick), Andre & Detrick. Aunt Terita and Elaine as well as a host of other relatives, friends, and church family.
