Mary Ann Shoemake

Mary Ann Shoemake was born February 12, 1938, in Lexington, Mississippi to the late Rev. William H. and Ethel B. Pittman. She grew up in Lexington, Mississippi where she graduated from high school and continued to college, attending Jackson State University. She married Raymond Nevada Shoemake, Sr. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas where she attended Kanas City University before deciding to become a Licensed nurse. She retired from Methodist Hospital after 35yrs. She is the widow of the late Raymond N. Shoemake, Sr., mother of two Ray and Lisa and a stepmother to Maddie Lou Tarvin. The grandmother of four, Travis N. Shoemake, Danielle S. Shoemake, Tayler L. Shoemake-Dixon and Bruce Thomas Caldwell, jr. A Great grandmother to Emery Lynn Dixon. Sister Mary Shoemake was a member of Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Indianapolis, Indiana, where she held several roles. She served on the Sr. Usher Board for many years, 1st Vice President of the usher board and a Trustee. She was a Sunday school teacher for intermediate class, Missionary, Youth Usher teacher and a member of the Southside Community Funding for The Needed. A program supported by the churches on the Southside to help those in the community that needed help. Sister Mary Shoemake served a two-year term as President of the Union District Usher and 1st Vice President of the State. She was a Vice President of the National Convention for Ushers and Nurse Midwest Region. She enrolled and completed classes in the Union District, within the States, and National Congress. Sister Shoemake loved to attend the National Baptist Convention’s where she ushers with doorkeepers from all over the U.S. She exemplified committed Christian education, Christian missions, and a true ministry of loving kindness for over 50 years. Mary Ann Shoemake went to be with the Lord January 7th, 2023. She leaves behind to celebrate her life, her children, Raymond N. Shoemake, Lisa Ann Shoemake, Indianapolis; her siblings Christine Gibson, Jackson, MS, Rev. Henry Pittman, jr., Jackson, MS, Lueretha Bennett. And most of the all her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren, Travis, Danielle Shoemake, Tayler Shoemake-Dixon (Robert) and Bruce Thomas Caldwell, jr. She will be missed by many other relatives and friends.
