Sheila Porsha Bonner was born on November 13, 2000, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Cynthia Denise Averitte and Anthony Deon Bonner Sr. Sheila attended Lawrence North High School before continuing her education at Warren Central High School, where she proudly graduated. Determined to pursue her passion for justice and public service, she earned a degree in Criminal Justice. Her dedication led her to a meaningful career as a Detention Officer with the Marion County Courts, where she served with integrity, patience, and compassion. Sheila approached her work with professionalism and a sincere belief in fairness, accountability, and the value of second chances. Faith was also an important part of Sheila’s life. At an early age, she professed her faith in Christ and was baptized at Fervent Prayer Church, where she attended and continued to grow in her faith. “Shay” as she was called by her family and friends, was the third of her siblings, a role that naturally shaped her into a protector, encourager, and source of comfort. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Bernice and Andrew Averitte, whose guidance and love helped mold the remarkable young woman she became. Sheila was quiet and reserved, but anyone who truly knew her experienced her vibrant personality. Beneath her gentle demeanor was a young woman who was funny, Sheila had a wonderful sense of humor she loved to laugh, she was outgoing, full of life, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and never passed up an opportunity to have a good time. She had an impressive shoe collection and a unique sense of style. Sheila carried herself with a quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a heart full of love for her family. She also shared a special bond with her beloved pit bull, Sophie, who brought her endless joy, comfort, and faithful companionship. Sheila was a devoted daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She cherished her family deeply and loved them with all her heart. Her nieces and nephews held an especially special place in her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Her love for them was genuine and unconditional. On Sunday, July 26, 2026, Sheila Porsha Bonner peacefully departed this life at the age of 25. She was preceded in death by her great-grandmothers, Ruby McGee and Ruthie Bonner-Smith; her great-grandfather, Miles Bonner; her grandfather, Kenneth Williams; her uncle, Tyrone Bonner Sr; and her stepmother, Metra Roar. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving grandmother, who lovingly served as her mother, Bernice Averitte; her mother, Cynthia Denise Averitte; her father, Anthony Deon Bonner Sr.; her grandfather, Andrew Averitte; grandmother Sheila Bussey;her siblings, Diamond Bonner, Anthony Bonner Jr., China Bonner, Jatoria Parks, Janiah Bonner, and Vishawn Mills; her beloved nieces, Ava Luna Bonner, Yuri Bonner, Madison Salazar, and Zoey Mills; her nephews, Darius Bonner and Zyin Bonner; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Sheila will be remembered for her beautiful smile, gentle spirit, quiet strength, unwavering dedication to her work, and the unconditional love she shared with everyone blessed to know her. Though her time on earth was far too brief, her laughter, kindness, and precious memories will continue to bring comfort, reminding us that while she is absent from our sight, she will never be absent from our hearts.
