Shirley Ann Relford

Shirley Ann Relford was born on July 24, 1935 to the late Tom Mac and Flossie B. Relford. She attended Frederick Douglas School #19 and later graduated from Harry E. Wood High School. Shirley accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at New Garfield Baptist Church, where she was a life-long member. Shirley was a hard-worker all of her life. She worked for the United States Postal Service for 10 years and then gained employment with General Motors. She retired from General Motors in May of 2006 after 34 years of service. “Hi Baby!” As soon as Shirley laid eyes on you – that’s what she said - with a warm smile and a kind word welcoming you into her presence. Shirley was the sweetest, most kind, caring, compassionate person, who touched the lives of multitudes. Shirley loved people and accepted everyone for who they are, no matter their flaws, she only looked at their hearts. Her love for the Lord was her guiding force and she fervently prayed for all of her loved ones. Shirley was the Matriarch of her family and gatherings at her house gave her great pleasure. Holidays, birthdays, football games, basketball games – whatever the occasion, she absolutely loved being surrounded by family and friends with food, fun and the sounds of joy amidst chaos. And she was a true connoisseur of Mexican food. Shirley’s favorite pastime was spending time with her kids, especially her precious daughter, Linda. They were blessed to be able to share so many happy occasions doing what Shirley enjoyed more than anything else – going to the Casino. Shirley was the heartbeat of this family and her presence will leave a void that will be difficult to fill. She was a queen who knew that her crown was not on her head, but in her soul. Shirley was preceded in death by her Parents, Tom Mac Relford and Flossie B. Relford, her beloved Son Phillip (Hardrock) Relford, her Grandson Damel Wilson, her Sister Phyllis J. Dinkins, her Niece Cynthia Dinkins and her Nephew Leroy S. Dinkins. Shirley leaves to cherish her memories her two remaining Children Wiliam Greg Relford and Linda Relford-Brown (Dale); Bonus son, James “Jimmy” Hall; Siblings Robert (Corkey) Relford, William (Buddy) Relford and Warren G. Brown; Grandchildren, Ashley Relford, William G. Relford, Jr. (Kenosha), Ray Relford, Olivia Garwood, (Tommy), Mariah Wilson; Sister-in- law JoAnn Mayfield and a host of Nieces & Nephews, and her Southside Family.
