Vernon Hayden

Vernon Edward Hayden, known as, “Bubba” departed this life on September 17, 2025. He was born on January 20, 1945 to the late Annie Meadows Bell and Herbert Walter Hayden in Schochoh, Kentucky in a small shack in Logan County. He attended elementary school at the Schochoh Schoolhouse. Vernon was a great man—a great husband, father and loved one. He worked many years for the Hyatt Regency and worked as a torch operator at David J. Joseph Company, a contractor for Amtrak in Indianapolis. He loved watching cowboy movies; loved the television show, Cops, and liked country music. Vernon enjoyed playing spades, and would jokingly place the joker on his forehead whenever he played cards with Remitha at the kitchen table. He made homemade cakes topped with the names of his grandchildren written in icing; grew tomatoes and watermelon in his backyard garden, and dared no one to take his Pepsi out of the refrigerator. He loved to visit his family down south in Tennessee and Kentucky; especially visiting his sister’s farm. He used a number of funny catch phrases, such as, “All shut eyes ain’t sleep!” and “You don’t believe fat meat greesy!” He enjoyed spending time with his nephews and nieces; he lived with one of his nieces, Kim for some time, and he was called, “Unc” He was known as Bubba down south, and called Papa by his grand children. Vernon completed his life as a successful family man; having wealth that men cannot buy—love, family and a belief in God. He was the favorite uncle who would play with the children and make everyone laugh listening to him talk about family. He was a provider and cared for those he loved. He leaves behind a strong work ethnic; bold sense of humor, and a legacy of fatherhood, dependability and resiliency. He was proceeded in death by his wife Rose Marie Hayden. His daughter, Remitha Rochelle Hayden. His parents, Annie Meadows Bell and Herbert Walter Hayden. His siblings, Mary Francis Feltner; Catherine Taylor; Jo Anne Stuckey; Alice King; James Thomas Hayden; Herbert Lee “Toby”Hayden. Niece, Cynthia Ann Long. Nephews, Kenneth Long; Ricky Taylor; Ronnie Taylor; Robert Lewis Taylor, and Edward Lee Taylor. He leaves to Cherish his memory daughter, Shona Moreland. Five grandchildren, Laila James (Rilee); Lauren Beckles; Michael Moreland II (Micah, Mahari); Brashon Moreland, and Brooke Moreland (Sage, Rose, Tyson and Lily). Nieces, Kim Torrence (Sean, Brandon); Angie Regnier (Joel, Jean Marc); Candalyn Sanders (Bria, Byron Jr.); Lisa Jordan (Taryn); Jaslynn Long (Jaelin, Robert), and Patricia Ann Hayden (Tyrone). Nephews, James Douglas Hayden “Doug” (Shea); James Thomas Hayden “Carl” (Carl Jr, Shelita); Tony Jordan (Tony Jr., Armani); Randy R. Taylor (Valencia, Dimitri); Cory King (Tyler); Michael Looper (Makyah, Terry, Kailea, Amina, Makai); Benny King; Antonio Long, and Tony Jefferson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
