Anthony Tyrone Miles

Thursday November 9, 2023, Anthony (Tony) Tyrone Miles transitioned peacefully at Veterans Hospital surrounded by his family and friends at the age of 73. Tony was born December 7, 1949, in Indianapolis Indiana. He graduated from Shortridge High School in 1968. Tony enlisted in the Army during the Viet-Nam Era and was stationed in Germany and completed his service in 1971. Tony was an exceptional artist, attending the IUPUI Herron School of Arts. He retired from the United States Postal Service after more than 30 years of service in 2012. Tony grew up in the Crosstown neighborhood, where his close friends began calling him “Smiles”. Tony was involved in various sports such as football, baseball, fast pitch softball and bowling as an adult. He organized a basketball tournament for the young men of Crosstown. He was an avid golfer who played regularly at his home course, Douglas Golf Course. He traveled in and out of the state with his golf buddies playing on several major courses. Tony enjoyed playing jazz music, dancing, and laughing at family gatherings. Tony was a father figure and mentor to younger family members as well as neighborhood kids. He loved his family and friends. He was committed to his church, he served as a Trustee and vice president of the Brotherhood Ministry at Eastside Baptist Church. He was still on his battlefield spreading God’s word, always making sure you knew the Lord for your journey. Tony was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Helen Miles-Coe, grandmothers Carrie Coe and Helen Johnson, grandfathers William Coe and James Johnson, brother Roland Miles (Kat) from Tucson Az. He leaves to cherish his Loving and Beautiful wife Lana of 44 years, two sons Marlin Miles (Teresa) and DeJuan Miles. Brothers Vernon Miles, Kevin Miles (Fran), Carey Miles and Derek Miles. Sisters Deborah Bouie (Elbert) and Sheryl Miles. He was affectionately known as Poppy by his Grandchildren Justin Miles, Ryan Miles, Alease Miles, Stacey Miles, Kennedy Miles, Savion Miles, Braydon Miles and DeShawn Miles and his Great Granddaughter (Brooklyn). Mother-In-Law Mildred Baker, Sister-In-Laws Frankie Walker and Connie Terry, and Brother-In-Laws Mike Cade (Linda) and William Turner (Sharon), and a host of nieces and nephews.
