Anthony Earl Shovan Sr.

Anthony Earl Shovan Sr., was born November 19, 1951, to Bartley E. and Verona Shovan in Indianapolis, IN. Tony grew up at 919 Locke St., Apt 608 in Lockefield Gardens. Although Tony’s last known address was on the East side of Indianapolis, he would let you know that he was a Westsider for life. As a youth Tony enjoyed playing football, baseball, and basketball with the local PAL Club. His other interests included playing the Congo Drums, he loved music, and he was a natural born comedian and storyteller. Tony was known for his impeccable style, his swagger, the razor-sharp creases in his jeans and his distinctive whistle. Tony attended Indianapolis Public Schools. Tony retired from Eli Lilly after 29 years of employment. He worked diligently as an environmental specialist and was recognized and awarded as an outstanding employee and supervisor. Tony is preceded in death by his parents Bartley and Verona Shovan. His siblings, Curtis (Mike) Shovan, Beverly Davie, Amy Shovan and his bonus sons, Ronald Williams and Anthony Johnson. Tony departed this life October 24, 2023, at 71 years of age after a courageous battle with renal disease. In the end, Tony was still cracking jokes and keeping his family and friend laughing despite his prognosis. Tony leaves behind his cherished partner, his love, his life, Belinda Williams. Belinda has been by his side for 40 years. They built a life together filled with love and happiness. When Tony could no longer take care of himself, Belinda made sure all his needs where met. She lovingly took care of her love with patience and kindness until his last breath. Tony is also survived by his children, Michelle Shovan and Anthony Shovan Jr., his brothers Pierre Shovan and Earl Shovan Jr., his grandchildren Tania Hamilton and Paul Hamilton, Jr., bonus grandson Ronzay Buckner, and his bonus children, Lisa Johnson, and Kenya Baker and as well of a host and extended family. The family of Anthony (Tony) Earl Shovan, Sr., would like to take this time to express our sincere appreciation for the many acts of love, concern and kindness shown the family in this time of bereavement. Our prayer is that God Bless and keep each one of you. Tony Shovan left an indelible impact on all those gathered here today, and his legacy will live on through each and every one of you.
