Antonia Gail Wright

Mrs. Antonia Gail Christie-Wright the daughter of David and Maxine (Gaines) Christie was born on April 9, 1948 in Indianapolis, Indiana. At an early age she was baptized at St. Rita in accordance with the Holy Rites of Catholic Church. On March 12, 1966, Antonia Wright and James Wright were united in holy matrimony at St. Christopher Catholic Church. From this union a beautiful daughter Shanette Dionn Wright - Gibbs and three handsome sons James, Marlon, and Daymond Wright were born. Antonia received her primary and secondary education in the catholic school system attending St. Rita Catholic School and St. Mary’s Academy. She received her bachelor’s in Business Administration from IUPUI in Indianapolis, IN. Antonia obtained her broker license from FC Tucker Real Estate Agency. Antonia was employed by the State of Indiana BMV after leaving the state she furthered her employment history with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield where she later retired as a Business Analyst for the IT department. After retirement she started working with Defrantz Insurance & Realty. Antonia was one for many personal and professional accomplishments throughout her lifetime. Some of her accomplishments were Ambassador of the American Heart Association, Toast Master, volunteer to Pack the Pantry, and Midwest Bartending School. She was an avid member of the Indiana Black Expo who was regarded as a selfless servant spirit “that would do whatever was necessary for the cause. She always did with that irrepressible, effervescent smile that made everyone in the room feel the warmth of her presence.” She has a plethora of accomplishment that are too many to name. Antonia, affectionately known as Soror Toni, became a member of Gama Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. on April 25, 2010. Soror Toni served in many capacities in her sorority such as Vice-President and Chapter Editor. She was active on several committees such as decoration committee, Scrap Book, and Soror of the Year, standard committee, and the civic committee until the time of her passing. She was very active in the planning and execution of their annual scholarship fundraiser “The Jazz Brunch” in which she held responsibilities such as the Co-chair and securing news anchor Rafael Sanchez as the event Master of Ceremonies. In 2016 Antonia received the “Rose Pin Award”, which is the highest award given to a Soror, for her work in the community through Gamma Phi Delta, Inc. She continued showing her faithfulness to the Sorority by becoming a “Building Life Member” in 2021. Today her name is memorialized on a plaque along with other faithful Sorors at the National Headquarters. If you knew Toni, you knew she was the highlight of the party and loved her family beyond measure. She would do anything in power to ensure the security, well-being, and advancement of her family. SHE WAS THE GLUE. She also loved to hear the cha-ching from the casinos, playing boardgames, having card nights on Friday, she was a passionate reader that enjoyed time with her book club, bowling with family and friends, shopping, and traveling. But the one thing that gave her the most enjoyment was spending time with her family on the holidays. It was truly her favorite times of the year. Out of all the things she loved her greatest earthly love was her devoted husband of 57 years, James Wright. MRS. ANTONIA GAIL CHRISTIE – WRIGHT was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at the age of seventy-five years old. She is preceded in death by her parents David and Maxine (Gaines) Christie; daughter Shanette Dion Gibbs; siblings David, Timothy, Terry, Micheal, Michelle, and Ronerik Christie. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband James A. Wright, three sons, James (Sherri Greene) Wright, Daymond (Charese) Wright, Marlon (Ayana Vitalis) Wright, Son-in-law Michael Gibbs; Siblings Teresa Knox, Renee Christie, and Yolanda Christie; sisters-in-law Cynthia Fountain, Linda Howell Wright; Grandchildren Aaron (Armeka) Wright, Natasha (Ryan) Quinn, Brittany (Micah) Walker, Sydnee Blane, Thomas, Jada, Briana, Kayla, Dejuan Archie, Daymond Jr., Micah Gibbs, Dillon, Amanda, Dawson, Malia, and Dion; Aunts Edith Orton and Erline Gaines; thirteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; a host of other family and friends.
