John Eric Cunningham

JOHN ERIC CUNNINGHAM was born March 22, 1968, to the union of Dorothy Davis and John Floyd Cunningham in St. Louis, Missouri. While a young child, he moved to Indianapolis with his mother. ERIC accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Phillips Temple. As an adult, he rededicated his life to Christ at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Darryl K. Webster. ERIC received his formal education in the Indianapolis Public School system and attended Southport and Arlington High Schools. ERIC was a husband, father, grandfather, and friend to most who knew him. He was fun-loving, and his kindness touched the hearts of all. In his leisure time, ERIC enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved gathering with them during the holidays, special occasions, or just because. ERIC enjoyed playing poker and roulette. He could dominate anyone in poker (if he had just learned to put his pride aside). He loved music and loved to sing and dance to Gospel and Blues. As the life of the party, ERIC had a unique ability to turn ordinary moments into extraordinary celebrations. ERIC's presence guaranteed a good time no matter what. ERIC received his driving certification and his CDL. Over the years, he drove for many companies within the cities he lived and on the road. He had over 1 Million miles on the highway. He began driving dump trucks over the last ten years of his career and was most recently employed at Wells Trucking. He was a reliable, committed, and experienced driver. His family and friends will remember his lively personality, quick tongue, kind heart, and fiery passion. ERIC was truly blessed. He departed this life peacefully with his family on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at the age of 54. He was preceded in death by his father, John Floyd Cunningham; bonus father, Robert "Bus" Turner; mother-in-love, Martha Carney; maternal grandmother, Etta V. Coleman; and great-grandmother, Emma Thompson. ERIC leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Gail Cunningham; mother, Dorothy Turner; children, Danell Akeem Taylor, John Cunningham Jr., Aleeria Cunningham, Joshua Cunningham; blended children, Breuana Murphy (Rickie), Elijah Sullivan, John Taylor, Erica Townsend (Craig); sisters, Wanda Atwater, Reneé Betts (LaMarr); sister/cousins, Angie Davis, Latasha Banks Easley; grandchildren, Malaiya Murphy, Genesis Taylor, Rickie Murphy, Danell Taylor Jr.; aunts, Velma Harden (Louis), Lorraine Brown (Tony), Debra Davis, Regina Morris, Ronion Henry; nieces, LaToya Atwater, Leah Atwater, Lexxus Betts Keyes (Denzel). A host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. As we say see you later, let us celebrate ERIC's life—remember the laughter he brought, the joy he shared, and the love radiating from his heart. Though he may be physically absent, the echoes of his laughter and the warmth of his spirit will forever linger in the hearts of those privileged to experience the charm of JOHN ERIC CUNNINGHAM.
