Marcus L Gray

Marcus Lee Gray, 66, was born to the parents of Elwood McKinley Gray (Hopkinsville, Kentucky) and Susie Lee Gray (Weathers) (Shaw, Mississippi), and passed peacefully alongside his beloved family on October 25th, 2022. Lee Gray attended Hazel Hart Hendricks Indianapolis Public School #37 until 1970. While there, he was a dedicated traffic guard. Lee Gray was an “All Around Athlete” at Harry E. Wood Vocational High School until he graduated in 1974. Mr. Gray became an Indiana State University Sycamore in Terre Haute, Indiana. He left school to conserve finances in hopes of returning in the future to complete his academic goals. With the encouragement from Jeffery Robinson & his family, Lee Gray returned to Indiana State University where he majored in Criminology and two minors Political Science and English, graduating in 1981. After graduation, an exciting opportunity came for Lee Gray to become an Undercover Investigator for the Agency of SPL investigations on November 12th, 1982. There he enjoyed the excitement and suspense of his adventurous career he worked so hard to obtain. Mr. Gray valued his moral stance and assisted this organization with locating violent criminals. In addition to his commitment to private investigation, he also was employed at National Wine & Spirit in Indianapolis, Indiana, making business partners all over the city from venues to local stores. Lee Gray experienced a long career in Safety and Security providing Loss Prevention Services to many prominent businesses in the city of Indianapolis including Zayre’s and The Point NightClub. Mr. Gray also provided security to many celebrities at The Hoosier Dome, Market Square Arena and the Convention Center while they performed here in Indianapolis. His most memorable client was grammy-winning artist, Luther Vandross. His social marker was Black Expo/Circle City Classic where he provided organization, management, and security every year in a suite belonging to National Wine and Spirits until he was no longer able. Lee Gray was an enthusiastic photographer who had a passion for taking and developing pictures. From that passion, GrayBoy Photography was established. Lee took great pride in his photography career, capturing unforgettable moments that would last forever. His talent, left a part of his legacy that family and friends cherish; every moment he captured allowed us to remember his presence. In 1981, Lee Gray called Renita Amos to schedule an appointment for his hair. Alisa Faye Amos answered the phone and the rest was history. Alisa was charmed by his smooth, soft tone and endless conversation. She won Lee’s heart through his stomach, with family recipes she mastered that were passed down through generations. After a beautiful courtship, on June 29, 1985, Marcus Lee Gray was united in holy matrimony to Alisa Faye Amos whom he affectionately called “Wifey". From that union, in 1986, a beautiful daughter was born, Candice Nicole Gray. Lee Gray’s most prized possession was his daughter. Marcus loved being a father and cherished every moment he heard “Daddy”from his precious baby girl. Candice was the light of his life, and the beat of his heart. Lee Gray was an avid gun collector. He firmly believed in the second admendment and frequently attended the local gun shows. Some of his favorite pastimes were going to the gun range and challenging anyone with a game of chess. Lee Gray was soft spoken, but his personality roared like a lion. He was loved and cherished by so many classmates, coworkers,and church family that he valued as family. He was protective of the people he loved and cherished. For many, he was the one person they could always call for knowledgeable advice or even just a listening ear. He was preceded in death by his parents Elwood and Susie Gray, brothers Samuel, Gerald, and Elwood Jr., sisters, Marcia Gray, Demetria Gray, Rosemary Dixon,god brother Santo Barber, and goddaughter Mary Allen. He is survived by his wife, Alisa, their daughter, Candice, grandson Jeremiah, sisters, Benita Gray, Sonia Gray, Tina Kincy (Michael), Carol Johnson (Michael), Robert Short (Juanita), godsisters Rhonda Barber, Terry Madison, God-children, Jason Howard, Nelson Davis, Kimberly Shanklin-Banks (Thomas), Tia Shanklin-Woods (Temalo), Precious Cooper, Alec Ivy, Toby Webster, Rabu Barber, Nicole Barber, Damontae Barber, and Aunesti Williams and a plethora of cousins, nieces, and nephews he loved.
